Plant & Process Optimisation

Services

Everything from scanning a worn part to planning a shutdown, across Tasmania and Australia-wide. Every job is handled by Paul himself, from the first conversation to the final drawing.

Example 3D scan point cloud of a pump impeller. Drag to turn it.

Capture what's there

Most plant has changed since it was drawn, if it was ever drawn at all. Good design starts with what's actually installed.

3D scanning

Scanning of parts, assemblies and plant areas to capture accurate geometry, including the hard-to-measure stuff: castings, worn surfaces, complex shapes and tight spaces.

You getAccurate scan data, ready to design from.

Reverse engineering

Obsolete, worn or undocumented part? It's scanned, measured and rebuilt as a clean 3D model, so you can have it made again, or made better.

You getA 3D model and manufacturing drawings.

Plant inspection

A hands-on look at your equipment from someone who spent 30 years repairing it. Wear, failure points, access problems and safety issues, written up in plain language.

You getAn inspection report with photos and recommendations.

Rotating Equipment Inspections

Mechanical inspections of rotating equipment, including gearboxes, conveyors, drivetrains, hydraulics and crushers. Wear, damage and early signs of failure are picked up before they turn into a costly outage.

You getAn inspection report with photos, condition findings and recommended actions.

Design what's needed

Designed by someone who has built, fitted and fixed this kind of equipment, so it works in the workshop and on site, not just on screen.

Mechanical design and 3D CAD drawings

3D models and detailed drawings for components, assemblies and plant modifications.

You get3D models, general arrangement and detail drawings, and parts lists.

Industrial design

New equipment, tooling, guarding, access platforms and handling aids, designed around how people actually operate and maintain them.

You getA design taken from concept through to manufacture-ready.

Process design

Layouts and flow for processing plant and production lines, set up so material moves efficiently and equipment can be reached for maintenance.

You getProcess layouts and equipment arrangements.

Manufacture and modification design

Changes to existing plant designed to suit what's already there, with drawings your manufacturer can quote and build from without guessing.

You getManufacturing drawings, cut lists and install notes.

Make it run better

Fix the root cause, not the symptom, so the same breakdown doesn't keep coming back.

Plant and process optimisation

Finding the bottlenecks, weak points and wasted effort in your plant, then designing practical changes to lift throughput and cut downtime.

You getClear findings and prioritised improvement options.

Maintenance and reliability improvement

Getting to the bottom of repeat failures and designing them out, and making equipment easier and safer to maintain.

You getRoot-cause findings and design fixes.

Shutdown and project planning

Scoping, sequencing and planning for shutdowns and plant projects, drawing on years of running them as a site supervisor and project manager.

You getA scope, schedule and job breakdown your crew can work to.

Where

Based in North Tasmania and working across the state, from the North West Coast and West Coast to Launceston and Hobart. Site inspections can be arranged anywhere in Australia, and design work can be done remotely.

Common questions

Can't see your question here? Call Paul on 0405 830 744, email paul.fisher@datumax.com.au or send a message.

What kind of businesses does Datumax work with?

Anyone who works with plant equipment. That includes mining and mineral processing, manufacturing, agriculture, energy and wind farms, councils and engineering workshops. If you have machinery that needs to run better, last longer or be replaced, Paul can help.

Do you work outside Tasmania?

Yes. Paul has worked across Australia in all states for mining, wind power, gas refineries and power stations. He is based in North Tasmania and works locally right across the state. Site inspections, 3D scanning and measuring can be arranged anywhere in Australia. Design work, process upgrading, reverse engineering and drawings can also be done remotely, working from your photos, drawings, measurements or scan data.

Which parts of Tasmania do you cover?

All of it. That includes the North West Coast (Burnie, Devonport, Ulverstone, Penguin, Wynyard and Smithton), Launceston and the Tamar Valley (including George Town and Bell Bay), the West Coast mining towns (Queenstown, Rosebery, Zeehan and Savage River), and Hobart and the south.

Can you make drawings for a part that has no drawings?

Yes. That's what reverse engineering is for. The part is 3D scanned and measured, then rebuilt as a clean 3D model with manufacturing drawings, so it can be made again. If the original had a weak point, it can be redesigned to last longer.

What is 3D scanning used for?

3D scanning captures the exact shape of a part or plant area, including worn surfaces, castings and complex shapes that are hard to measure by hand. Designing from scan data means new parts and modifications fit the equipment that is actually installed, not a drawing that's decades out of date.

What do you check in a mechanical inspection?

The mechanical systems: gearboxes, bearings, drivetrains, lubrication, mountings and anything that can have an influence on its operation. The aim is to pick up wear, damage and early signs of failure before they turn into a costly outage. You get a written report with photos, condition findings and recommended actions.

Can you help plan a shutdown?

Yes. Paul spent years running shutdowns and plant projects as a site supervisor and project manager on mine sites. He can scope the work, sequence it and break it into jobs your crew can work to.

What should I send to get a quote?

A short description of the equipment and the problem, a few photos, any drawings or manuals you have, where the equipment is, and when you need it done. Email it to paul.fisher@datumax.com.au, use the contact form, or call Paul on 0405 830 744.

Are you insured?

Yes. Datumax holds professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Who will I actually be dealing with?

Paul. There are no account managers or hand-offs. You deal with Paul from the first conversation to the final drawing.

Got a machine that keeps breaking?

Send Paul the details. You'll get a straight answer on what can be done and what it will take.
